I am married with three children and my oldest son is profoundly deaf. In 2002 he became the first child in Jersey to receive a cochlear implant. This implant enabled him to be schooled on island rather than having to board at a specialist school in the UK. However, being the first meant he had to start off with very little support. We learnt that as every child is unique, what works for one may not work for others and some children need more and others less support.
I joined the Parent Carer Forum to exchange experience and knowledge with other parents and to work with the government to enable all children in Jersey, to reach their potential and lead an independent and happy life.
