Debbie Bertram

I am the mother to three children aged 16, 17 and 19 years of age. My eldest son Harvey, was born with Williams Syndrome which has also resulted in him going through Open Heart surgery and Spinal surgery for Scoliosis.

Giving birth to a child with any disability can be incredibly scary and lonely therefore, over the last 19 years I have been involved in numerous panels and committees trying to improve the lives of our young people with disabilities and their families.

I joined the Parent Carers Forum in the hope that, as a group of parent’s with children of Special Needs, we could use our vast experience to make the navigation through, what can sometimes feel like a minefield, easier for new parents of children with disabilities.
